The latest iTunes 10.1.2 install on my Win XP Pro SP3 system kills my Internet access. Internet status shows that I'm connected but Internet Explorer and Firefox can't connect to the server. Running Win XP Pro SP3 with all MS updates applied on a Dual-Core Intel 6600 chip, 4 gig of memory and a couple of terabytes of hard drive. When I do a restore from my backup hard drive to the prior OS and iTunes version, everything is back to normal. I didn't receive any error notifications both times from the install.

I first did the install from the Apple website directly (and lost Internet access), then restored my backup system and downloaded the update separately and then installed and lost Internet access again. Am now back up using iTunes 10.1.1.4. Is this update from Egypt? (supposed to be funny).Thanks-Richard. Thanks for the link. I noticed that 'Swut' from Orange County, Ca (see the post below) had a reply in the link you gave me referring to 'Vipre', which is an Anti-Virus program that I also use, like 'Swut'.I will investigate this further.

In defense of Apple, there is no way that they can test against every bit of software that we run on these PCs. I would hope that if we find out that there is some problem with the Vipre interface, both Apple and the Vipre people will be made aware of the problem. Before I try the iTunes 10.2.1 upgrade again, I'll contact Sunbelt Software- the people who make Vipre and see if they have heard of this problem. I'll let all of you know what the results are.Thanks- Richard Van Nostrand'From SwutFrom: Orange County, CARegistered: Jan 28, 2008Re: iTunes 10.1.0.56 update kills network interface - Windows 7Posted: Dec 12, 2010 2:32 AM in response to: TG10987I didn't have to go all the way through with TRG10987s solution. When I got to step 4 I noticed that VIPRE had installed multiple virtual network adapters on to of the network adapters. I uninstalled VIPRE thereby deleting the virtual adapters ran the upgrade, and reinstalled VIPRE. Everything works fine now. Thanks to TG10987, who put me on the path.'

Well- after doing a restore from my HD to go back to 10.1.1 (in Win XP Pro SP3) I have Internet access again. Next, I shut down my internet access and deleted Vipre (my anti-virus. I then installed iTunes 10.1.2 and turned on Internet access. Everything worked fine- I was online with no problems.

Next, I re-installed Vipre and re-started my system per other people's advice here. I was dead in the water. This is not a Vipre problem, as Vipre is telling me that something changed my server address, ICMP is not correct, and it didn't like that at all.I have a dual-boot system and booted into Windows 7 with Vipre up and running. I installed iTunes 10.1.2 and had absolutely no problems. I think there is something wrong with iTune's 10.1.2 update because I should not have to go through all these hoops. I've lost hours of my time trying to fix this. Poor show, Apple- you got this one wrong.

It would be nice if you came out with a fix, as I have good reasons for useing Win XP Pro vice Win7.Richard. Well, I guess I can mark this as fixed. My Shuttle PC's motherboard went up in smoke- literally! I had to air the house out. I loaded the newest version of iTunes (10.1.2.17) onto a 6-year old single processor PC I had laying around- it had the same version of Vipre antivirus on it as the burnt up Shuttle PC. No problem getting to the internet now. I can't tell if it was the upgrade to iTunes or running it on an AMD cpu but it now works.

This old PC is Really Slow!! I'm going to the Apple Store today and buying myself a new 17' MacBook Pro with 8gig of memory and the new SandyBridge I7 CPU. With VMware, I'll have a Mac and a PC and won't have to mess around anymore! I'll contact the Vipre people and relay this message to them. Many thanks for the advice here.Richard.
