Original Title: StarLancer stops working upon execution.Hello, everyone.I am trying to install and play my copy of StarLancer on my Vista (32-bit) computer. However, whenever I try to execute the game, (after having a dialog box telling me an unknown publisher is trying to open the program) it will crash and give me an errorsaying 'StarLancer has stopped working.' The dialog box with then say that it is trying to fix the problem, which will then fail.I have tried changing the properties of this file so that it is always run as an Administrator (which I am), and so that it is run in compatibility mode to Windows XP (SP2), Windows 95, 98, ME, and 2000, none of which work; the same thing happens:I run the game, it says it is being run by an unknown publisher, I click allow, and then it stops working before it even begins. The setup runs perfectly. I have installed it, uninstalled it, and then reinstalled it many times over. I can remember being able to run the file and play the game successfully when I first decided I wanted to play StarLancer, though I was unable to advancefurther than the first mission, after completing this the game would crash and I would get the 'StarLancer has stopped working' error message. The playability of my copy has slowly deteriorated over time; as I re-installed it, the length to which I could advancein-game became decreasingly far, and it has now come to a point where I cannot even access a menu screen, as I said before.I have had this game for a while now, and it has worked in the past and people in my family have been able to enjoy it without interruption.
However, I fear that this malfunction may be a hardware issue instead of my copy of StarLancer itself, so insteadof rushing into trying to find a new copy, I figured I would get someone's opinion on the best method of fixing this problem first. Many thanks in advance,Vix. Method 2.Another possibility could be this that another 3rd party installed program or application is causing the conflict with this game. You are required to perform a clean boot to find the program that is causing this and then disable or remove it.How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7Note: When the troubleshooting is over do not forget to reset the computer to normal startup. Follow the step 7 in the above article.Hope this helps. Thanks and Regards:Shekhar S - Microsoft Support.Visit our and let us know what you think. If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the 'Mark as Answer' or 'Helpful' button at the top of this message.

Thanks for updating your post with the appropriate article for me, I am greatly thankful for your effort. However, it too has not solved my problem.I have followed the steps in the clean boot article to the letter. I have deactivated processes from starting when I boot my machine, and also deactivated all but the Microsoft services. After rebooting, I re-installed StarLancer and executed it. I got thesame prompt for administrative consent (the one that claims an unknown program wants to access my machine, or the 'unknown publisher' one, whatever you want to call it).
I clicked allow, and after waiting a little longer than usual, 'StarLancer stopped working'again. It puzzles me what could be wrong, but I fear it could be something wrong with my copy of the game and I doubt I'd be able to find another copy at my local game stores.Either way, I appreciate any methods or ideas you have for solving this quandary.Again, thanks,Vix.
