Folow these links to go to, and of this lesson.I love this tune. So many tasty guitar licks, such wonderful playing. Technically a little difficult at times, but just perfect notes in just the right place!Make sure you check out the recorded version and cop Mark Knopflers touch, it's superb. The dynamic is a big part of the style, working on the dynamics of the notes and really trying to get inside the track. The chord part (vid 1) is good for intermediate players that know barre chords, the rest of the lead lines are good fun, and not too hard, except for a few bits.Enjoy! Getting even close to Mark Knopflers sound is hard, he gets an amazing tone, but I'm sure most of that comes from his fingers! Not sure what he plays on the recording of course, but it's a strat sound and I am aware that he has a red early 60's strat, so maybe it was that. After a little research it seems the amp he probably used was a Fender Vibrolux.

I used a 1989 Fender Strat Plus Deluxe into a 1979 Fender Twin Reverb.I bought the strat new (it was my first strat). The neck and middle pickups are the original lace sensor gold pickups, and the bridge is a Seymour Duncan 'Cool Stack' humbucker and I have a toggle switch that flicks it to single coil.

It has the LSR roller nut, locking pegs and a standard bridge. The amp I bought this year, it's all original as far as I can tell. But I have some awesome Telefunken Diamond Bottom NOS 12AX7 valves in it that sound fat (I swap them into whatever amp I'm using they sound so good!). I used the vib channel.I just checked the settings that I used, and it seems I had a pretty funny setting. Vol - 7, Treble - 6, Mid - 5, Bass - 4, Reverb - 3, Speed - 2, Intensity - 1, Master Volume 5. I dial in sounds by listening not looking. And to have a numerical descending setting is hilariously strange!
