So it was strange and frustrating for rapper Blaze Ya Dead Homie to have his fans enjoying new songs that had yet to be incorporated into his live set.' I wanted to actually continue and be out there longer because the album came out and I didn't get a chance to play a lot of new stuff out on this tour,' Blaze said in an interview at the time. That will all change, though, when Blaze, now a veteran member of the Psychopathic Records roster, hits the road for his official 'Clockwork Gray' tour. The itinerary includes a Jan.
30 stop at the in Hartford.' Oh, it's gonna be the (bomb), man,' Blaze said in a Jan. 11 interview. 'I'm hype as hell. Can't wait to get back out there. I was trying to get out there right before the end of last year, but then some circumstances came up and I had a wait a little bit.
The only chance to do (new songs) was a little bit here and there. I did a one-off show on Halloween in Denver and I did a little bit there, so that was kind of cool.
But I'm definitely getting ready to do some of that, do some of Zodiac Mprint, some different things out there.' Zodiac Mprint, as Blaze's loyal fans - the juggalos and juggalettes - well know, is the rapper's brand new group project with hypeman and fellow Psychopathic artist The R.O.C.' We're still working on some stuff, straight up,' Blaze said. 'It's gonna be the (bomb). The album's gonna be called 'Horrorscope,' still hasn't changed.
Me and R.O.C. Are kicking around ideas. But there's a lot more stuff happening. You know, R.O.C. Is actually gonna be working on a solo. I may still be working on another solo. At that time frame when I was talking to you last time, we had mentioned just doing Zodiac Mprint full on, and we're still gonna do that.
But we're possibly gonna remain doing our own solo stuff as well.' Relatively new to headlining, Blaze has long opened for and been a special guest at concerts by label mates and Twiztid. He's also toured with the legendary Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and 2Pac affiliates The Outlawz. But as any Blaze fan can tell you, whether he's headlining or opening for a non-Psychopathic Records act, the reason to come out for the show is to see Blaze and hear the songs that have made him a label mainstay. These have included, over the years, 'Grave Ain't No Place,' 'Casket,' 'Juggalo Anthem,' 'Nasty,' 'Hood Ratz' and 'Given Half The Chance' - all from 2001's full-length debut, '1 Less G N Da Hood.' Add to those such favorites as 'Bump This.,' 'Shot-Gun' and 'Further From Truth' from 2004's ' LP.Blaze said the thrust of this tour will be breaking out new songs from 'Clockwork Gray' and maybe even performing the tracks 'Shake' and 'Girls They Love Me,' which came out in November on the 'Psychopathics From Outer Space, Part 3' compilation CD.' It's a strong possibility because, like I said, I'm trying to get out there and do a little bit different material than what I've done on the last tour,' he said.
'I'm trying to switch it up a little bit. I might actually leave some of those (classic) tracks back that I've done for quite a long time, maybe hold them off for this next tour. I'll make it special for the Gathering (fan festival) when we come back.' Born April 27 - he won't reveal the year - Blaze declines to talk about his childhood in interviews. He did play basketball, hockey and tennis. His musical influences include Stetasonic, Public Enemy and West Coast rappers Spice 1, MC Eiht, Dr.
Dre and E-40.While in high school, Blaze started a rap group called 2 Krazee Devils, which later changed its name to Sleepwalkers and was affiliated with Detroit underground legends the - The R.O.C.' S former group.By 1997, both groups had split up and Blaze eventually joined Psychopathic Records with his longtime friends, Twiztid, also formerly of the House Of Krazees. He appeared on the Twiztid song 'Hound Dogs' in 1999 on Island Records and continued to appear on additional Psychopathic releases. His rap persona, by the time he released his self-titled debut EP in 2000, was that of a gangsta rapper who came back from the dead after spending 11 years in a casket. Two full-length albums later, Blaze has established himself as a hard worker and regular touring attraction. With production from Potluck's UnderRated and former Twiztid collaborator, among others, 'Clockwork Gray' delivers throughout.' You're tapping into a different world with me, with Blaze Ya Dead Homie,' Blaze said. 'It's a lot of different flavor. It's a little bit of old-school Blaze Ya Dead Homie stuff, which you would kind of expect from Blaze.
But there are some things that are a lot different on there - a little bit of gangsta (stuff). It's a wide range of different beats from different producers. So it's kind of a whole different style for Blaze.' One song, 'Egg Plantz' is about Blaze's willingness to have one-night stands with plus-sized women.' 'Egg Plantz' is a reference to big chicks, thick chicks, chicks that look like an egg plant,' he said. 'She's 4-foot-3, she's 300 pounds, she looks like an eggplant. I'm cool with them types of chicks.'
Another song, 'Zip Codes 'N Time Zones,' features Violent J of Insane Clown Posse.' I mean, straight up that was about the love that we get,' Blaze said.
'Everywhere we go, it's always the (bomb), man. There's juggalos everywhere you go, no matter what zip code, time zone, wherever you're at. You can be in Europe or Australia and still be a juggalo. And we get love everywhere we've been. Everywhere I've been, I've got love. That's basically what it's about.' Meanwhile, 'Escape Artist' touches on being invincible and 'Ill Connect' - for which Blaze shot his first-ever music video - features The R.O.C.'
I wanted R.O.C. To shine for his part on stage too,' Blaze said, adding that his rap partner will play a bigger role on this tour.
'The song is about a drug deal gone bad. You're setting up a drug deal and you're setting it up with the police. The police caught you and you need some homey to help you out. He's gonna help me out. We're gonna roll together. And then when we get there, the (cops) are there and everything's wrong. Cops come out, it's the ill-fated shootout and that's what happens.'
