XP doesn't natively support SATA so you can't install XP on a SATA HDD without doing some prep work 1st. You need to do one of 3 things to get it to work:1. Enter the BIOS & change the SATA setting to 'IDE compatibility mode'2. Install the compatible SATA drivers at the very beginning of the XP installation by pressing F6, then loading the drivers from a floppy disk3.
Create a new XP CD with the SATA drivers slipstreamed into it.Without doing one of these 3, XP can NOT be installed on your system. K here's the deal. Went with option 4 I took the new hard drive back because the place I bought it wanted $189 to format and install the brand new hard drive??? Didn't make sense. I bought an older computer with 2 hard drives, which I plays on before o paid for, with a fresh legal install of xp pro. Took that home. Took it out put them in my computer.
Got message sayng media failed no operating system found. Took it out and put back in old comp, it booted right up.
Mayby Im doing something wrong. Had sata drive and two new are IDE. OK here's the deal.Your option 4 was a mistake.
